18 Months!!

Jack has hit the 18 month mark and he is growing and changing quickly

Weight: 22.6 lbs (10th %tile)

Height: 32.5 inches (57th %tile)

Head Circumference: 18 inches (64th %tile)

He did great at his doctor's appointment this time. We actually saw the doctor this time. We've seen the nurse practitioner for the last year and he always screams at her. But he loved the doctor and was super mellow and happy. The only tears were when the nurse weighed him and then when she came back for his shot. He is right on track with his development and is a healthy little man.

Jack is a very active kid who loves to help and get into things. He loves to follow me around and doesn't like to be apart. If I leave the room, he is generally right behind me. He helps me unload the dishwasher, do the laundry, sweep the floor, vacuum, dust, etc., etc. He is also great at pulling everything off the bookshelves and getting all of his toys and books out.

Jack loves to be read to. We spend a great portion of our day reading. He's got a few books on rotation that we read over and over. We've had to hide Frosty the Snowman because we were getting so tired of reading it over and over. Jack also likes to read to himself. He loves the word "up" and has a little book called Up that he knows how to read. He just goes through the book saying, "up, up, up!"

Jack doesn't say a lot of words, but he can get his point across. He does say up, mom, dad, yep, nah, dem (amen), ball, and bird. Any time you ask him a question, he'll respond by shaking his head no, whether he means no or not. He points at everything he wants and has a bit of a temper when he doesn't get what he wants. He understands most everything I say and follows directions when he wants to - there are times when I know he understands, but just chooses not to follow.

Jack's eating is hit or miss. He goes through big eating phases and then seems to not eat much at all. He likes to eat eggs, pancakes, and cereal for breakfast. He likes mac and cheese, peas, corn, pears, and pasta for other meals. He eats yogurt, cheese, fruit snacks, raisins, and sometimes crackers for snacks. He loves to drink out of Mom's water bottle.

Jack still doesn't sleep all that well. On a good night, he wakes up 2-3 times. On a bad night, well, we won't go there. He takes one nap a day that can go from an hour and a half to three hours. Sleep is a big stress around here.

Jack loves to watch people but can be kind of shy when he doesn't know them too well. He loves to play with his uncles. He is still shy at nursery and has a hard time when Mommy leaves. He is definitely a Momma's boy. He loves Daddy, but is very attached to Mom.

We love our Jack Jack and don't know what we would do without our sweet, energetic, loving, busy little man!

A Big Boy Haircut

BEFORE

Jack's hair was getting SO long and thick.

DURING

Daddy took the buzzers to Jack's hair.

"What is all this hair doing on me?"

"I'm not so sure about this."

Um, I think we could make a toupee with all that hair that came off such a little guy's head.

AFTER

Jack Jack is looking handsome, although I'm a little sad because he looks so grown up now.

My baby is getting too big!

Get Us Out of Here!

Jack and I are getting a little stir crazy staying inside all day.

So on Thursday, it was sunny and it may have hit 40 degrees, so we headed outside.

We took a walk and played on the soggy grass for awhile.

Jack had so much fun just getting out the stroller that he sat in it for another 45 minutes after we came back in.

Maybe all I need to do to make him happy is get out the stroller from now on?

What a Difference a Year Makes

Just a year ago, Jack was a teeny tiny little man that was just learning how to crawl.

Now he's officially 18 months old and a big man, no longer a baby.

Friday Night Fun

Instead of going out on the town on a Friday night and partying like we normal do (ha ha!),

we decided to stay in and have some fun.

Andrew came over and we ate pizza.

Then Jack and Andrew made some brownies.

Jack may or may not have sampled some of the batter.

The jury is still out, but there may be some incriminating evidence on his face.

We played the Wii, although it is tough to play with Jack because has a tendency to steal all of the remotes. Luckily he shared for a bit and we enjoyed some good fun.

Then Jack headed off to bed while the rest of watched the new episode of The Office.

What a wild Friday night!

At the Rink

On Saturday night we went to the BYU hockey game with Andrew.

Jack spent all of his time climbing on the bleachers.

It was way past his bedtime, so Mommy and Jack went home after the first period.

But Daddy and Andrew had fun, despite a Cougar loss.

Lady Killer

Jack went to the uncles' ward to hear Uncle Andrew speak on Sunday.

Good thing they both have girlfriends because this little hottie was ready to steal the ladies' hearts.

Funny Little Taste Buds

Since he was sick, Jack has been kind of picky about his eating.

At first, all he would eat was Velveeta Shells and Cheese and fruit snacks.

He still eats that everyday, but now he includes eggs, cereal, peas, corn, yogurt, and...

spicy pickles???

We like to eat Famous Dave's Spicy Signature Spicy Pickles and so does our picky little eater.

Bed Head

Jack has thick hair.

He always has, always will.

He's in need of another haircut.

And that point was hammered in when he woke up from his nap yesterday.

Check out that crazy bed head, sticking out all over.

Uncle Will has told him he looks like a Q-tip, with his big, fluffy head.

At least he's a cute Q-tip.

An update on Jack's praying: When we were saying family prayers the other night, I was praying that Jack would sleep well in his own bed. I peek at him while I'm saying this and he's sitting there, shaking his head no. What a little stink!

A Momentous Day

Lately Jack has been showing interest in using the potty.

He's wanted to sit on it a few times, but is scared of the big toilet.

And yesterday at the library he picked out some books about using the potty.

Dallin and I have read those books to him about 100 times each since yesterday.

So today, we got him his own little potty chair.

I really didn't have high expectations since he's still so young.

But right away he wanted to sit on it.

And he peed in it!

What a big boy!

Hopefully there's a lot more potty chair action in our future!

A Child's Prayer

Jack has been getting better and better at saying prayers.

He now folds his hands, as you see above.

He'll stay still for most of the prayer, although occasionally he'll wander off.

But as soon as he hears us say the words, "In the name of..." he quickly folds his hands again as quickly as he can, wherever he may be.

And as we say "Jesus Christ" he yells out, "dem!" His version of amen.

We love our faithful little man!

Future BYU Quarterback

This little stud is training to be a BYU quarterback.

His new game involves getting out every ball he owns, throwing them across the room, running around picking them up, and then throwing them again.

And he looks even better doing it in his BYU sweatshirt, warm up pants, and Nikes.

It's only natural to be a football player when you live this close to the stadium.

Back To Reality

We got back from Texas last Sunday night and were forced to return to reality.

It was cold, very cold, and has been below freezing all week.

Oh, how we miss the warmer weather!

Jack got sick the night before we left and has been sick all week with a runny nose and cough.

Of course that means miserable nights and whiny days.

We haven't really gone anywhere because of this.

Instead we've been hanging out at home, playing with all our new Christmas toys, including our new Play Dough.

Dallin went back to school and we're trying to re-establish our routine.

But boy do we miss vacation!

Baby, You're A Firework

Coffman men love fireworks, as we discovered on New Year's Eve Eve and New Year's Eve.

Both nights were filled with some spectacular shows.

At first the littlest Coffman male was a nervous about the fireworks.

But give him some snappers to throw and he'll quickly warm up.

By the end, he was a firework pro.

Too bad he missed the show at midnight to ring in the New Year.

For a neighborhood that doesn't allow fireworks, there was an amazing show.
