I Don't Heart Maternity Pants and Other Musings

Maternity Clothes
My wonderful friend Cammi generously loaned me her maternity clothes and I discovered something that I just don't like, but seem to be a necessary evil - maternity pants, and maternity jeans in particular.
At my appointment this month, my doctor kindly noticed that my belly had really "blossomed" this last month.  This was something not lost on me.  Even with my belly sleeve, things are just kind of tight.  So when Cammi offered her clothes, I jumped at the chance to not have to buy new pants.  But maternity jeans are just so unflattering, as you can tell from the above picture.  Someone out there needs to figure out a way to make jeans that can accomodate the growing pregnant figure as well as flatter it.  They would make so much money.

A Dancing Machine
My baby seems to have been on a sugar high for the last week, despite the fact that I haven't eaten much sugar.  That kid has really started moving.  Whenever I sit down, no matter the time of day, I can feel him moving.  And now his daddy can feel him some of the time too.  I guess Little Man Coffman has developed some strength.  I can only imagine what it's going to be like in the next few months, once he gets bigger.

Baby Furniture
Now I pose a question for you.  Where do you get good baby furniture?  We have the crib, we have the bassinet.  I've been looking around for a changing table in cherry to go with the crib and there is nothing really out there.  I was hoping to find a changing table that can also double as a dresser, but I would like something that would close like a cupboard.  Everything I've seen is open shelves.  Any ideas?

Grrrr...
While out looking for above mentioned changing table today, I saw bedding that I like and now have a theme for the nursery in mind - JUNGLE!  There is some really cute stuff out there and I'm excited to have a better idea of what I want to do.

There WAS Sunshine In My Soul

On Saturday, not just one, but two miracles occured.  First, it was beautiful weather - sunny, in the 70s, something that hasn't happened in such a long time.  And secondly, my wonderful husband did not have to work.  It's been TOO long since that happened.

So to celebrate this day of miracles, we loaded up the Crayola with fishing gear, bikes, and a picnic lunch and headed to Utah Lake.  Dallin fished while I read and enjoyed the sunshine.  We rode our bikes and watched the planes headed for the Provo Airport.  And we discovered the Little Man Coffman enjoys planes.  Every time a plane flew by, he moved.  I've never felt the kid move so much before.

After the day was over we were left with slight sunburns and happy hearts.
Hopefully those will carry us through this week, which has been cold and stormy and even snowy.
Sunshine, blessed, sunshine, please come back to us...

All The Cool Kids Are Doing It

(I know, I know, you've seen this pic before.  I'm just too lazy to take another belly pic today)

I recently discovered that it's all the rage to look pregnant these days.  Well, at least in my classroom.  While on recess duty today, I watched several of my boys run around with their sweaters stuffed up their shirts, giving them the "pregnant look."  Yes, you read correctly - it was my boys, not my girls.  Don't know quite what to think about that.  Then later on, as my little darlings were writing, I noticed several different kids, this time boys AND girls, with the sweaters stuffed up their shirts.  I don't know whether I should be flattered that they want a hot belly like mine or worried that I'm promoting very early pregnancy.

Kiss Me, I'm Irish

Happy St. Patty's Day!

While I've never been much of St. Patrick's Day celebrator (my lack of alcohol consumption restricts a lot of the celebrations of the day), today I donned my green shirt and brought me some Lucky Charms to school.  The kids had a good ol' time sorting their magically delicious treat and writing about what they would do if they caught a leprechaun.  Fun was had by all!

But, oh, the celebrating didn't stop there!  While driving home today, I recalled how in college, my good friend Sarah always made us corned beef and cabbage every year.  And strangely enough, it sounded really good to my goofy pregnancy taste buds.  So right now, Dallin and I have whipped up some corned beef and cabbage and it's cooking on the stove.  It smells so good and I can't wait to eat it.  I'll let you know how it tastes!  (Most likely like a little bit of St. Patrick's Day heaven)

P.S. Thanks to Sarah and Lily for their corned beef and cabbage tips!

Feel the Fear

The things we do for our students.  In the month of February, our school competed in the Jazz Reading competition.  While we didn't win a Jazz player, we did meet our school goal.  And those teachers who were lucky enough to have their classes meet their class goal were able to compete in the Fear Factor Assembly.  Lucky me, my class was one of the top reading classes in the lower grades.
I had the "pleasure" of putting my hands in brains (colored spaghetti) and dig out bugs.  I also got to crack eggs in my hands and pass it onto my teammates.  Luckily two of my teammates were kind enough to drink the mysterious substance in the bowl with the diapers.
Then came the part that really grossed me out.  Sardines soaked in hot mustard.  We were supposed to put them in our mouths, walk across the stage, and spit them in a cup.  Just couldn't do it - just having the nasty thing in my hand made me feel sick to my stomach.  I lost two points for my team.  Hopefully they'll forgive me.  Just so you know, pregnancy and sardines do not mix well.
I'm just lucky that I wasn't in the final challenge.  They had to eat things like cow tongue, sushi, caviar, clams, octopus, and then a shake with all of those things pureed together.  Just watching them made me feel sick again.
Our principal, who is such a good sport, allowed the kids to shave his head into a mohawk and spray paint it blue.  He is really looking good.
Oh, the things we do to entertain and motivate the kids...

I'm excited to have a mini-Dallin at our house soon.

It's A...

BOY!!!

We went in for the big ultrasound today and found out that we have a very modest boy.  He enjoyed lounging with his arm behind his head and his legs crossed, rather than showing us his "goods."  Only after Mom walked up and down the hallway a few times and wiggled around a bit did he decide to let us know a little more about him.
We are quite taken with our little man!

The Polls Are Closing

If you haven't voted yet on Baby Coffman's gender, don't waste anymore time.
The polls are closing.
The verdict will hopefully be in on Monday morning. Let's hope Baby C is not modest!
As you can see, the second graders did not agree with the way the poll is looking right now - they think it is a girl!
We will see who is right!

The Yummies

Today there are two yummy things in my house...

The Food
My most favorite Easter treat
The Smell
My wonderful Scentsy, courtesy of one my little darlings for Valentines Day.

Guess I don't need to leave the house...everything I need is right here

Flasback Friday - Updated

Oh, the awkward pre-teen days!
So glad that they've passed!

(My mother did not dress me like this.  I was at a Murder Mystery Party and was dressed as a reporter from the '30s.  I did dress like a normal 12 year old of the early '90s every other day of the week.)

Itsy Bitsy Fears

These baby feet do not belong to me or any of my acquaintances.
Just some random feet I came across on Google that fit the mood of this post.

Today my good friend gave birth to a beautiful, dark-haired, baby boy.

Dallin and I loaded up in the Crayola to take a peak.

What a doll!

Yet, upon holding this precious little guy, I was seized by some fears.

He was so tiny, so fragile, so delicate.

And some of my excitement of having my very own was replaced by some anxiety.

How will I take care of something so itty bitty and helpless?

And here we enter another phase of pregnancy emotions...

A Spring In My Step

Spring is coming...

I can feel it in my bones.

Most of the snow has melted...only a little patch left in our driveway

My little car thermometer teased me with a 67

I donned my b-ball shorts for our evening walk

The sun shines upon me as I drive to work

I think I'll just ignore that silly weather report that says snow on Thursday, just ignore it.
