Water Babies

The weather is warming up and my water babies are back. Since the pool isn't up yet, they are taking advantage of the SPRINKLERS!

Their first time was a spontaneous, post sand box adventure in their underwear. 

Now they beg to play everyday!

We Were All Yellow

We are almost done with the alphabet. So this week we did Y is for YELLOW! 

We painted suns and then made the rays out of our footprints. 

We write You Are My Sunshine and they signed their names. 

We read Curious George books in honor of the man with the yellow hat. We also had Y books with poems and songs with lots of y words. We read them and circled the y's. 

After a hunt for yellow things, we created yellow things out of yellow Play-Doh

Our final fun involved yellow water balloons. I wrote all the lowercase letters in the driveway. When I called out a letter, they had to find it and throw a water balloon at it. 

It was the highlight of the day. 

And of course at recess we played in the Yard!

The X At The End of the Rainbow

Happy St Patrick's Day! We switched our preschool day to Monday this week since we have an appointment tomorrow. But it worked out great because our letter this week is X. And there's not a lot to do with X, so we went with the St Patrick's theme instead after doing our regular workbook. 

We watched a video about what St Patrick's Day is about and worked in a packet I found on overthebigmoon.com

When we went to eat our snacks, we discovered a leprechaun had stolen them and left a shamrock treasure hunt in it's place. 

We eventually found our St Patrick's Day cookies. 

And they were tasty. 

We also made rainbows out of Fruit Loops. 

And we practiced writing our new sight words in boxes of sand. That was a hit!

We also had corned beef and cabbage for dinner to finish out our St Patrick's Day!

Spring Fever

Spring is here and we are excited to see the sun, everything in bloom, and just get out and play. 

I made this fun Easter wreath to hang on our pretty new door. 

We have also been getting our garden ready. Dallin built garden boxes. 

Can you tell who helps and who plays?

Luke kept yelling "ta da!" and asking to have his picture taken. 

Eventually he got to work. 

We've planted tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, jalapeño peppers, squash, lettuce, spinach, okra, and cantaloupe and we have potato boxes ready to go. 

We are excited to take care of the garden. 

The downside of spring - allergies. We have itchy, watery, swollen eyes, runny noses and coughs. 

It's a love-hate relationship with spring 

Running Water

At preschool this week, W is for water!

We read My W Sound Box, worked in our workbooks, and then did lots of experiments and fun with water. 

We painted with watercolor paints. 

We did an experiment to find out what dissolves in water and what doesn't.  They made their guesses and loved seeing how they mixed. 

We discovered that salt, sugar, brown sugar, flour, and sprinkles dissolve and that noodles and cereal do not. We also mixed oil and water and then added dish soap to see how they do not mix!

We also found out what things absorb water and which do not. We colored the water blue to really be able to see it and used a dropper, which they loved taking turns with. 

We found out that wax paper, foil, and ziploc bags are not absorbent. 

And that socks, sponges, paper towels and cotton balls are absorbent!

They loved seeing the droplets of water on the wax paper so much that I let them play around with it for awhile. 

We started the celery in colored water experiment, but it will take awhile to see the results. Maybe next week!

For our final experiment, we put a pencil in water and saw how different it looks, like it's bent. They had to draw their hypothesis and then the results. 

They loved being little water scientists today!

Worker Bee

Dallin works hard. After being gone for work for three weeks, he hasn't wasted any time getting things done at home. 

Our car is just about too small for us once we will be fitting three car seats in the back, so we got a new bigger car!

It's a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. It seats seven, gets great gas mileage, and we got a great deal on it.

Dallin also worked hard installing our pretty new door that we ordered awhile ago. 

He had to take off the old door, put in the new door, new insulation and new trim. He had a great little helper too.

He and Jack also spent the day pressure washing the driveway and trimming our trees. You can't call Dallin lazy!

Mardi Froid

Yesterday was Mardi Gras. Dallin returned to us after a three week work trip on Monday. We kicked off our Mardi Gras with crawfish etoufee, which I have been craving. 

Mardi Gras itself dawned cold and icy. We even had little icicles on our house and bushes. 

Our power ended up being out for about four hours. It was getting chilly and we were worried it would be long term. Luckily everything was ok and we warmed up. 

We also warmed up with gumbo and king cake with friends since we didn't want to brave the cold to see the parade. 

Quite the low key and chilly Mardi Gras , or rather Mardi Froid.
