When the Bugs Bite

Our field trip was to the nature preserve. 

The boys started out excited!

We saw a crawfish cross the road. 

But then the Mosquitos went crazy. 

We were sad we didn't see any alligators. 

And spent most of our time running from the bugs. 

We did see a frog. 

Since we didn't see much, we drowned our sorrows at Chik-Fil-A and had a great time playing on the toys. 

Little Big Boy

Luke is just one month from his second birthday and has turned into such a big boy. 

He wants to do everything his big brother does and copies everything. He wants to use the computer and is an expert with the iPhone. 

Preschool has rubbed off on. While he was coloring, he kept pointing at his paper and telling me he was writing his name. 

Big brother even gives him a turn on his bike and pushes him around. He's also an expert on the scooter. 

Sometimes he even wears big boy undies. 

While he doesn't quite have the hang of it, he did go poop on the potty once!

We love our happy, cute, silly little big boy!

Fall Is In The Air

F is for fall! Today at preschool we read lots of fall books!

We went on a nature walk to look for signs of fall. Fall isn't quite here in Louisiana, but we did find a few fall leaves, acorns, and saw some squirrels. 

We also encountered a turtle as we were out! 

Then we used our collected leaves (and a few store bought since leaves aren't in big supply yet here) to decorate F, f and 5. 

 

We marched capital and lower case letters using fall leaves. We pretended the wind kept blowing our leaves and played a few times. 

They worked hard in their workbooks. 

I made trees with different numbers on them. 

Then they put that many fall leaf stickers on the trees. 

They traced fall leaves and then used water colors to decorate them. 

We ran out of time, so Jack and Luke ended up doing our final project later. We used egg cartons as paint brushes to paint fall trees. 

Fall Park Day

Over the weekend we got 14 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. While we almost floated away, it did bring some well deserved cooler temperatures. So we spent the morning enjoying them in the park. The boys were in heaven! 

Ragin Cajun Food

We were lucky to have Mrs Susan teach us about Cajun food for our Friday field trip. 

She was lots of fun and taught us a Cajun song!

She talked about different kinds of Cajun food and even brought boudin for the boys to try. 

Jack tried one bite. 

And wasn't a huge fan 

She also brought beads and talked about Mardi Gras. 

And cupcakes in Mardi Gras colors. All the boys loved those!

They were able to color a page with a crawfish boil too. It was a fun experience and we are so grateful to Mrs Susan for coming to teach us! You are the best!

Egg-cellent

We focused this week on the letter E, number 4, and ovals. So our theme was EGGS!

We read these great books. 

Decorated e's with Easter egg stickers. 

Egg-periment #1 Will the egg float? We added salt to one of the cups of warm water and were amazed to see that egg floated!

Then we painted wooden eggs. 

We worked in our workbooks. Snack wasn't too exciting today, just grapes, goldfish and chocolate milk. It would have been fun to eat egg sandwiches, but I knew none of them would go for it. 

Egg-periment #2 Spinning Eggs. We learned that hard boiled eggs spin faster than raw eggs. Then practiced with the hard boiled eggs. 

We practiced counting with eggs/ovals. 

After working in our number workbooks, we did Egg-periment #3 Bouncing Eggs. I had soaked raw eggs in vinegar for three days. That changes the shell so that it bounces. They ended up breaking if bounced from too high, but work down low 

Next we created patterns with our eggs/ovals. 

Egg-periment #4 Egg in a Bottle

At first the peeled hard boiled egg wouldn't fit through the neck of the bottle. But I lit some paper on fire and put the egg back and it slid right through. They loved this!

We has fun being little scientists and learning about eggs today!
