Jumping Jack-O-Lanterns

Preschool was all about the letter J. Like, J is for Jack. We reviewed and did calendar. We read My J Box and discovered lots of things that begin with J.

Then we used finger paint to practice writing all the letters and numbers we know, and the letters and numbers we learned today.

After reading It's Pumpkin Day, Mouse by Laura Numeroff and discussing different facial expressions, they drew faces on jack o lanterns.

Then arranged them into J and j.

We also played a J Jumping game where they drew color cards with either capital or lower case J and had to jump to the matching letter. They loved that it weaved through rooms in the house.

And led to jack-o-lantern cookies.

We read Five Little Monkeys Trick or Treat and then worked in workbooks on bigger/smaller and writing the number 9. They worked off their cookies by doing jumping Jack's.

Then we read Five Little Pumpkins. I had typed up a book Ten Little Jack-O-Lanterns. After each page, 1 jack-o-lantern would roll away. They had to write how many were left on each page and draw the pumpkins in.

And they loved that I told them to finish it for homework and sent a tracing page too. They love homework!

Monday, Monday

Sometimes Mondays can be a drag, but we managed to have lots of fun.

Luke is obsessed with his four wheeler so we were out back riding at 8am.

And we spent most of the day out back.

We had a fun FHE where we learned about praying when we need help, painted little pumpkins, listened to Halloween music and ate pumpkin cookies.

It was a fun day!

I Am A Child of God

Today was Jack's first Primary program.  He did great and looked mighty handsome too! He had his part memorized the day after they gave it to him and said it with confidence at the pulpit.  "Heavenly Father wants us to be happy.  He sent us to Earth to get our bodies."  He was pretty entertaining up front.  At one point, he was jumping up and down during a song because he had to go to the bathroom.  I had to hurry up to get him.  He pulled other similar Sunbeam stunts, including hanging from the stand and teasing his neighbor.  We will definitely work on his reverence for next year.  But we are so proud of what a big boy he is becoming!

Let's Get This Party Started

This big boy is turning 2 next Saturday!

Sine Dallin will be working, we celebrated early with the coolest puppy party ever!

We served pigs in a blanket, meatballs, potato skins, chips, and veggies.

It was super yummy and perfect for a fall football Saturday - especially since the weather actually felt like fall today!

We has lots of balloons for the kids to play with.

And the adults entertained themselves watching football.

Then it was piñata time. They don't sell puppy piñatas (maybe they don't want to encourage dog abuse) so went with a star and doggy bags

All the kids had a chance

Then Mr Sheldon wanted to give it a go

Candy, candy, candy!

Then it was cake time!

Luke was hesitant to blow out the candles, so his big brother helped out

He got lots of fun presents. Planes, cars, and a little "iPad" type thing.

Mommy and daddy got him his own four wheeler.

He loved it and cruised around the backyard for an hour while the other kids played with Jack's four wheeler and the sandbox

Jack was excited to get him a backpack and he absolutely loves it and feels like a big boy now!

It was a great day and fun to kick off his birthday week !

The Tooth Fairy

The Tooth Fairy ended up making her first appearance at our house a few years earlier than planned. Jack was having problems with a tooth and the dentist decided it would be best to pull it. He was pretty funny with the medicine they used. He talked a lot about passwords and then about smacking his baby cousin Lily. Yes, he's a violent drunk. But he was a champ during and after the procedure and was full of energy shortly thereafter.

That night, when Dallin reminded him to put his tooth under his pillow, he didn't want to do it and insisted Dallin do it. He then laid as far away as possible from where the tooth was placed. His hesitance was gone in the morning when he discovered the money under his pillow. The tooth fairy pays big bucks for your first tooth !

Ice Cream and Igloos

It's all about the letter I!

We read these books:

We do the Pledge of Allegiance every time and we are proud to announce they have it memorized!

We did our regular calendar work

And practiced writing our letters and numbers

After reading My I Box, we reviewed our letters by matching ice cream scoops with capital and lower case letters to cones with a picture of a word that starts with that letter.

We worked on our letter workbooks. Then we filled in I with ice cream scoops.

We read The Three Snow Bears, which is a twist on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Goldilocks is an Eskimo and the bears live in an igloo. Then we tried to make igloos using cupcakes, frosting, and marshmallows. The boys just wanted to eat the cupcakes, so they didn't quite turn out.

We picked number cards, then colored that number on our ice cream coloring page.

Our shape was a star, so we did some tracing and finished our shape workbooks.

You scream, I scream, we all scream for preschool!
